No schedules were listed in the filing. January 16, 2001AJ Contracting Co., a Manhattan,
N.Y. interior contractor which recently filed Chapter 11, believes
that it can turn itself around, despite that fact that its liabilities
of $11.5 million are more than double its assets.
The company was forced to file for bankruptcy protection
after it was hit with a $1 million judgment related to a legal
dispute with a subcontractor. In addition, AJ Contracting is still recovering
from a pay-to-play bribery scandal a few years ago that resulted
in $20 million in fines against AJ and several other companies. Commco Technology LLC, Stamford,
Ct., has now filed Chapter 11 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in
Hartford, Ct. The firm
listed assets and liabilities of between $10 million and $50 million
each. Continental Communities Construction Co., Woodland
Hills, Ca., has now filed Chapter 11 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court
in Los Angeles. The firm listed assets and liabilities of about

Hills, Ca., has now filed Chapter 11 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court

of houseware products, is trying to assure its suppliers that
it is headed for a successful turnaround.
The company's turnaround strategy is based on upgrading
its budget merchandise, enhancing its focus on kitchen products
and adding e-commerce operations to its Web business.
Lechters, which reported losses of $38 million in its most
recent nine-month period on a 6% decline in sales--to $254 million,
has not reported a fiscal profit in nearly four years. In addition,
the firm has seen its credit line dwindle from $120 million to
only $18.8 million as of last October. The operator of more than
500 stores has been caught between pressure from higher-end retailers
such as Bed Bath & Beyond and discounters such as Target Corp.
Promedco of Temple, Fort Worth, Tx., has now filed
Chapter listing assets of between $10 million and $100 million.
Its liabilities are estimated to be in excess of $100 million.
USA Biomass Corp., a Bell Gardens, Ca. solid-waste
transportation company, has now filed Chapter 11 listing assets
and liabilities of $12.9 million and $14.5 million respectively.
Listed at the same address and also filing Chapter 11 were American
Greenwaste Inc., listing assets and liabilities of $196,000 and
$322,000 respectively, and American Waste Transport Inc., which
listed assets and liabilities of $8.3 million and $9.2 million

Ca. maker of lead-acid batteries, has now filed Chapter 11 listing
assets and liabilities of $471,000 and $1.5 million respectively.

that it is unable to pay its debt and that it will likely file
for bankruptcy protection. The
Cincinnati, Oh. fruit company, which is the world's biggest producer
of bananas, has blamed its woes on European banana quotas, which
it claims have cost it some $1.3 billion in revenue since 1992.
Coldfreight Inc., Austell, Ga., has now filed Chapter
11 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Georgia.

filing. Global Coatings International Corp., Bradenton,

filing. Graphics Technologies Inc. of Eden Prairie, Mn., which
formerly did business as Virtual Technologies Corp., has
now filed Chapter 11 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Minneapolis. The firm listed assets and liabilities of nearly
$2.2 million and $14.1 million respectively. Guido's Food Co. Inc., Brooksville, Fl., has now filed
Chapter 7. No schedules were listed in the filing. Healtheatre.com Inc. of Alpharetta, Ga., which does business
as Healthcare Information Depot Inc., has now filed Chapter 7
in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Georgia.

Imperial Color Corp., Elizabeth, N.J., has now filed
Chapter 7. No schedules
were listed in the filing. Imperial Sugar Co. of Sugar Land, Tx. has now filed
Chapter 11. The company, which has defaulted on $250 million in
senior notes, made the filing in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in
Wilmington, De., listing assets and liabilities of $1.1 billion
and $775 million respectively. In conjunction with the filing, the company
has arranged for $85 million in new financing that will allow
it to continue operations and another $307 million in financing
for use after it emerges from bankruptcy protection. JCC Holding Co.
A 2/8 hearing has now been scheduled to consider approval
of the disclosure statement in the JCC Holding Co. Chapter

from its lenders for as much as $38 million in debtor-in-possession
financing so that it can continue daily operations. Only Multimedia Network Inc., Los Angeles,
Ca., has now filed Chapter 11 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in

respectively. Daewoo Motor, the bankrupt South Korean carmaker,
has seen its creditors file a reorganization plan that calls for
laying off 2,800 employees. Dimac Holdings Inc.
A 1/24 hearing has been scheduled to consider the sale
of certain assets in the Dimac Holdings Inc. Chapter 11

George Davis, at 212-310-8000. Sendmygift.com, a Burnsville, Mn. Internet gift
registry, filed Chapter 11 listing assets and liabilities of $10.2
million and $5.2 million respectively. Tumbleweed Communications Corp., a Redwood
City, Ca. provider of Internet-messaging solutions which is facing
mounting losses, announced that it will reduce its payroll by
seventy-four employees (20% of its workforce). The company also
said that its fourth quarter loss will be as much as $18 million,
more than double the loss in last year's fourth quarter. U.S. Forest Industries Inc., a Medford,
Or. forest-products company that filed Chapter 11 last month citing
weak market prices, has reopened its mills in Grants Pass and
White City after receiving approval from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court
to pay the 300 employees that were rehired at those plants.
The company will apparently not reopen its two other mills,
which employed another 300 workers. January 19, 2001Brazilian American Trading Co., Miami,
Fl., has now filed Chapter 7. No schedules were listed in the
filing. Daleen Technologies, a Boca Raton, Fl. supplier of e-business
infrastructure software, announced plans to lay off 135 employees
(27% of its workforce) in an effort to cut costs. First American Service Transport Inc., Miami,
Fl., has now filed Chapter 7. No schedules were listed in the
filing. Hyundai Electronics Industries Inc., a South
Korean maker of memory chips, announced plans to slash its payroll
by 23% and sell off some of its assets. The firm is attempting
to reduce its debtload of $6 billion. International Medical Services Inc., Memphis,
Tn., has now filed Chapter 7 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for
the Western District of Tennessee.
