Ameriserve Food Distribution Inc. A 9/12 deadline has been set for filing proof of claims in the Ameriserve Food Distribution Inc. Chapter 11 bankruptcy.  For further information contact the debtor's attorney, James Sprayregen, at 312-861-2000.

Beltex Inc., a Belmont, N.C. maker of men's underwear, filed Chapter 11 in the wake of a dispute with one of its vendors that resulted in shipment delays.

Genicom Corp. An 8/31 deadline has been set for filing proof of claims in the Genicom Corp. Chapter 11 bankruptcy.  For further information contact the debtor's attorney, Francis Monaco, at 302-656-8162.

HF Henderson Industries, West Caldwell, N.J., filed Chapter 11 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New Jersey. The case number is 00-37054. 

Medical Diagnostic Holdings LLC, Englewood Cliffs, N.J., filed Chapter 11 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New Jersey. The case number is 00-36861.

Quorum Health Group Inc., a Brentwood, Tx.-based hospital-management concern, has retained Goldman Sachs Group Inc. to assist it in finding strategic alternatives, including a sale or recapitalization of the firm. Quorum, which owns twenty-one hospitals and manages 200 others, has been bogged down with declining reimbursement rates along with a federal investigation of its Medicare expenses. The company was recently valued at about $960 million.

Ridgeview Inc., a Newton, N.C. maker of hosiery products, filed Chapter 11 in an attempt to reorganize. Ridgeview wants to exit its women's-hosiery business and focus on its sport-socks operations.

Value America Inc., a Charlottesville, Va.-based online retailer, has shut down its Internet-retail business, laid off 185 employees and filed Chapter 11 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Virginia. . The firm hopes to reorganize and focus on it electronic-services operations.

August 15, 2000

American Truck & Trailer Co. Inc., Freetown, Ma., has now filed Chapter 7 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Boston. The case number is 00-14761. No schedules were listed in the filing. 

Hyundai Corp., the largest conglomerate in South Korea, has received approval from its creditors for a restructuring plan that involves selling off certain assets and spinning off two of its affiliates. According to the plan, creditors would buy 6.1% of the company's Hyundai Motor unit. Hyundai Corp. would also sell off about $1.4 billion of real estate and securities.

JV Distributing Plus, Philadelphia, Pa., has now filed Chapter 11 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Philadelphia. The case number is 00-19226. No schedules were listed in the filing. 

Kaju Foods & Trading Co., San Francisco, Ca., has now filed Chapter 13.

LifeBlood Biomedical Inc. of Denver, Co., which recently filed Chapter 11, has estimated its assets at less than $10 million and its liabilities at less than $50 million. Three other companies listed at the same address as LifeBlood Biomedical also filed Chapter 11: LifeBlood Cryogenics Inc., New Millennium Group of Colorado LLC and Bluff Dale Corp.

National Equipment Inventory Inc., Valrico, Fl., has now filed Chapter 7. No schedules were listed in the filing. 

Northeast Steel Fabricators Inc., Malden, Ma., has now filed Chapter 7. No schedules were listed in the filing.  The case number is 00-14893.

Raymond Enterprises LLC of Denver, Co., has now filed Chapter 11 listing assets and liabilities of less than $10 million each.

Reliance Group Holdings Inc., a Manhattan, N.Y.-based property-and-casualty insurance concern, warned that it may have to file for bankruptcy protection after announcing that it is unable to repay $735 million in debt that is due by the end of this month. The company, which reported a second quarter loss of more than $500 million, might find a reprieve from

Berkshire Hathaway Inc., investor Warren Buffet's holding company, which said that it might be interested in acquiring certain of Reliance's assets in a move which would help Reliance raise cash to reduce its debtload.

Sunbeam Corp., a Boca Raton, Fl.-based maker of small consumer appliances which faces a debtload of $2.4 billion, has put its Oster product line on the selling block as part of its strategy to turn itself around. Sunbeam, whose products include Mr. Coffee coffeemakersand First Alert smoke detectors, reported a second quarter loss from operations of $54 million on a 7.8% decline in sales--to $610 million. The loss, wider than expected, is Sunbeam's tenth-straight quarterly loss.

Telephone Answering Service of Essex County Inc., Topsfield, Ma., has now filed Chapter 7 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Boston. The case number is 00-14732. No schedules were listed in the filing. 

Tris Mental Health Services Plus, Voorhees, N.J., has now filed Chapter 11 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Camden. The case number is 00-15998. No schedules were listed in the filing. 

Vallejo Market Inc., San Francisco, Ca., has now filed Chapter 7 listing assets of less than $6,000 and liabilities of nearly $659,000. 

Will-Son Corp., Camden, N.J., has now filed Chapter 11 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Camden. The case number is 00-16105. No schedules were listed in the filing.  The company is also known as Woodland Care Center.

August 16, 2000

AMF Bowling Inc., a Mechanicsville, Va.-based operator of bowling alleys, has been warned by its lenders that it must present a plan for reorganizing its debt within seven weeks or face the possibility of being forced into bankruptcy. The lenders did in the meantime waive certain of AMF's covenants and permit the firm to miss a $13 million payment due 9/15. AMF, which is 54%-owned by Goldman Sachs Group of New York, has faced slow growth in recent years after building up a debtload of $1.2 billion after an acquisition binge. 

Boston Software Services Inc., Mansfield, Ma., has now filed Chapter 11. No schedules were listed in the filing.  The case number is 00-14187.

Global In-Touch Communications Inc., San Antonio, Tx., has now filed Chapter 11. No schedules were listed in the filing.

Grand Union Co., the Wayne, N.J.-based supermarket chain, will reduce its payroll by 170 employees and take a second quarter charge of $2 million. Grand Union, which reported a second quarter loss of $26.6 million, hopes the job cuts will increase the flow of its operating cash and save it between $8 million and $12 million annually.

Hematology-Oncology of San Antonio, San Antonio, Tx., has now filed Chapter 11. No schedules were listed in the filing.

J. Lee Textile, a Los Angeles, Ca. textile maker, has now filed Chapter 7 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Los Angeles. No schedules were listed in the filing.  The case number is LA00-28155-ER. For further information contact the debtor's attorney, George Hong, at 213-380-2828.

Living.com, an online furniture retailer, has ceased operating and filed Chapter 7. The once promising company, which a half year ago announced a $145 million venture in conjunction with Amazon.com Inc., was unable to come up with sufficient financing.

Mintaka Post Inc., a Salt Lake City, Ut. firm which does business as Telescene, will be liquidated in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Utah by TNT Auction, also of Salt Lake City. Mintaka has been operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection since April, when it listed assets and liabilities of $4.2 million and $7.1 million respectively.

OpTel Inc. An 8/29 hearing has been scheduled to consider the sale of certain assets in the OpTel Inc. Chapter 11 bankruptcy. For further information contact the debtor's attorney, James Beldner, at 212-479-6086.

Pendesic LLC, a Sunnyvale, Ca. business-to-consumer e-commerce concern, has shut down its operations and laid off its workforce of 400 employees in the U.S., Great Britain and Japan. The company has been unable to successfully promote its e-commerce platform and did not expect to achieve profitability in the foreseeable future.

Texas Environmental Premier Service, San Antonio, Tx., has now filed Chapter 11 listing assets and liabilities of $1.1 million and $1.6 million respectively.

Ultracote LLC, Long Beach, Ca., has now filed Chapter 7 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Los Angeles listing liabilities of $1 million. No assets were listed in the filing.  The case number is LA00-28283-AA. For further information contact the debtor's attorney, Robert Scott, at 562-628-9488.

August 17, 2000

Asplund Coffee Co. Inc., Rogers, Mn., filed Chapter 11 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Minnesota. The case number is 00-33056. The firm listed assets and liabilities of $1.4 million and $1.9 million respectively.

A-W Corp. of Fairfax Inc., Alexandria, Va., filed Chapter 11 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Alexandria listing assets and liabilities of between $1 million and $10 million each. The case number is 00-13133.

Bridgeville Hospitality Partners LP, Pittsburgh, Pa., has now filed Chapter 11. No schedules were listed in the filing.  

Gardenburger Inc., the Portland, Or. maker of meatless dinner patties, is shifting its focus once again in an attempt to regain profitability. The firm recently put aside a strategic plan to increase its marketshare and will instead focus on ways to realize sustained growth and profitability. Meanwhile, in a management shakeup, the company's chief executive of five years, Lyle Hubbard, has resigned. While Mr. Hubbard did succeed in making Gardenburger a well-recognized name brand and helped in doubling the firm's sales to about $90 million during his tenure, the company continues operating in the red in an increasingly competitive field. Gray Gas & Oil Inc., Norvelt, Pa., has now filed Chapter 11. No schedules were listed in the filing. 

Heilig-Meyers Co., a Richmond, Va.-based retailer of home furnishings, filed Chapter 11 listing assets and liabilities of more than $1.3 billion and $868 million respectively. In a first step toward reorganizing, Heilig-Meyers announced that it will close 302 of its 900 stores and lay off 4,400 employees. In addition, the company received a commitment from its lenders for a $215 million funding package. The firm's vendors have recently demanded cash for delivery of products or have stopped shipments altogether. Heilig, which has been hurt in recent years following its expansion into urban markets where its lower-priced products lacked luster, has also faced increasing competition from the likes of Ikea.

JJ Textile Inc./JJ Knitting Co., Los Angeles, Ca., has now filed Chapter 7 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Los Angeles. No schedules were listed in the filing.  The case number is LA00-28063-ES. For further information contact the debtor's attorney, Ted Yoon, at 213-385-1655.

Edge Communications Inc., Gaithersburg, Md., has now filed Chapter 7 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Greenbelt, Md. No schedules were listed in the filing.  The case number is 00-18137. Listed at the same address and also filing Chapter 11 was C2C Communications Inc.  Its case number is 00-18138.

LaRoche Industries Inc. An 8/24 date has been set for the auction of certain assets in the LaRoche Industries Inc. Chapter 11 bankruptcy. For further information contact the debtor's attorney, Neal Batson, at 404-881-7000.

Reliance Group Holdings Inc. has reached a tentative deal to sell its accident and health-insurance businesses to Combined Insurance Co. of America, a unit of Aon Corp. of Chicago, Il., for an undisclosed amount. Financially-troubled Reliance, based in Manhattan, N.Y., recently reported a second quarter loss of more than $500 million, said it wouldn't be able to make a $735 million debt payment due this month and warned that it may have to file bankruptcy.

Sorrento Lactalis Inc., a Lacey, Wa. cheese maker, will close its doors. The shutdown will affect 120 workers. The firm claimed that costs for wastewater treatment required by state regulators would be too expensive.

Stoddard-Hamilton Aircraft Inc., Arlington, Wa., has now filed Chapter 11 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Washington. No schedules were listed in the filing.  The case number is 00-7107.

Sundmacher Marketing Co. Inc., Orlando, Fl., has now filed Chapter 7. No schedules were listed in the filing. 

Suntel Network Inc., Orlando, Fl., has now filed Chapter 11. No schedules were listed in the filing.
